Ten Sing is a Christian youth program within the YWCA and YMCA, engaging teenagers in creative performing arts.

Ten Sing work is based on a common agreement between member countries of the European Ten Sing Group.

Ten Sing is:

• By young people, for young people.

Young people know best what they think, dream of, feel and desire. Therefore, young people should be active in the management of Ten Sing and take responsibility for running programs by themselves.

• Young responsibility with adult support

Ten Sing is for young people, with young people and run by young people. Even though the youth is responsible for the program, it is important to have adult presence. Adults should act as mentors for the youth leaders. The adults should be a resource for help, support and advice when needed.

• Harmony of mind, spirit and body

The Ten Sing program focuses on “the whole human being”, with spirit, mind and body. The YMCA-logo – the triangle – illustrates that all parts are equally important.

• Process before product

To reach the goal of developing young people, Ten Sing focuses on the process of making a creative performance. The process is the tool to make everybody contribute.  While young people work together regularly in a safe environment, trying and failing, developing and growing, they are creating a product that the youth can enjoy and be proud of.

• Open membership

Ten Sing is open to everyone irrespective of gender, beliefs, abilities, talents, ethnic and social background.

Ten Sing in Ukraine

Thanks to visits of Ten Sing group of YMCA of Norway to Ukraine, this project began to develop in Ukrainian local YMCAs.

In 2004 National TenSing team was created by Ivanna Horbachuk (President of YMCA Volyn).

“ShekSNIDada” dramatized statement on HIV / AIDS, created in cooperation with director of the Volyn television Vitaly Gerasimlyuk. The show was demonstrated in Ukraine, Russia, the Czech Republic, Denmark and Lithuania.

Our teams represented YMCA on international and national stages (Luhansk, Krasnyi Luch, Rivne, Kharkiv, Lviv).

In 2009, YMCA of Ukraine hosted Swedish actors from the “Clowns Without Borders” organization and in 2015 clowns “REDNOSES International”.

Ten Sing teams of local organizations create performances for children and young people in Ukraine and actively participate in Ten Sing Festivals of YMCA Europe in Denmark (2006), Germany (2011), Norway (2018) and Ukrainian (2004, 2007, 2011, 2015, 2016, 2018) YMCA Festivals and other international events.
